What do your headshots really say about you?
Updated: Sep 3, 2021
Have you ever thought about the messages you send with your headshots? Most people don’t.
In today’s online driven world, your headshots are as important as your handshake used to be. It’s common for people to cross their arms across their chest in an effort to communicate confidence and authority. Unfortunately, the message is usually undermined because the person's expression or posture communicates defensiveness and uncertainty.
We can all tell when someone is tense and nervous, and no plastic smile or unnatural posturing can hide the subtle messages we send with our body language. Assertively addressing the camera in a way that shows you're comfortable and in control of the situation is the only way to show the delicate balance of confidence and approachability that is the hallmark of a great leader. Your photographer must coach you in how to express yourself unselfconsciously to show that balance.

Remember, it’s your photographer's job to make you look good in front of the camera. This requires them to have great empathy and compassion as well as a command of body language and the ability to both read and direct their micro-expressions.
